How we research our cost guides
Our cost guides tell homeowners what home-improvement projects cost in their area, starting with floor coatings. Every price on them comes from a public source, and every source is linked next to the figure so you can check it yourself.
Where the prices come from
- Prices that local installers publish on their own websites. We prefer installers who name a real location and a specific system.
- National cost guides, kept in a separate group, because they average many markets and often repeat each other.
- We leave out sites that look like lead-generation networks rather than installers, and we never estimate or invent a figure. A market with little published data gets a thinner guide.
How each figure is checked
- Each price is read from the source page itself, with the system it belongs to checked in context, before it goes on a page.
- Dates are shown only when the source page states one.
- Technical statements, such as moisture limits or cure times, come from manufacturers' data sheets and the ASTM test standards they reference. Tax statements come from the state or provincial revenue department.
- The calculator on each guide uses only those published ranges for that market. A system with no published local price is left out of that market's calculator.
What the numbers are, and are not
They are ranges, not quotes. Your real price depends on your slab, which an installer confirms by seeing it, usually with a free visit. We re-check the prices at least twice a year, and each guide shows the date it was last checked.
Who we are
Pictimate makes estimate and preview pages for home-improvement contractors, starting with floor coating and flooring contractors. The guides are researched by Arian Askarizad. We are not paid by the businesses we cite and are not affiliated with them. If you ask for quotes through a guide, we pass your request to a local installer with your agreement.
